SKIL Infra bags mega tourism infrastructure project in HP

NEW DELHI: The Nikhil Gandhi-promoted SKIL Infrastructure has bagged a Rs 10,900-crore tourism-led infrastructure project in Himachal Pradesh, one of the largest projects in the country.

It envisages the construction of an international airport, a brand new hill station which would support several new industries, a ski village, a food and fruit export processing zone, five star hotels and possibly even a luxury train service on the lines of the Palace on Wheels.

According to sources close to the development, the project was cleared at a state cabinet meeting on Saturday night after it emerged the most competitive bidder. The project would be spread across Waknaghat, Suna and Manali regions of Himachal Pradesh.

It would be taken up in two phases and the first phase would cost around Rs 4,200 crore. The new hill station so created would house several knowledge industries and healthcare projects.

The ski village on the other hand would also boast of cog wheel trains like the ones which operate in Switzerland. These trains climb up steep terrains and can go from zero to 7000 feet in 30 minutes flat. This is expected to be a one of a kind in the country and would be developed by a Swiss company. There would be ski lifts to ferry people from one mountain to the other
